Alstom Spin

The project is an addition to the Alstom factory buildings in Chattanooga.  The building houses the new “DH13” testing bunker for steam powered turbines.  The bunker is a chamfered hollow cylinder approximately 88 feet long with a 44 foot diameter.  It has approximately 11 feet 6 inch thick walls.  Adjacent to the bunker are pumps and oil tanks that lubricate the bunker interior and create a vacuum chamber.  Stairs, mezzanines, ladders, catwalks and pits are provided to service and control the testing bunker.  The space housing the bunker has an industrial quality environment and finishes for floors, hardened and sealed concrete, walls, insulated metal panels, ceilings, exposed structure with insulated metal deck.  The space is climate controlled.  It is lighted naturally from windows and artificially by HID lights.  The control room where people work has a quality office environment; climate controlled, lighted appropriately for work tasks and designed for an effective working environment.  It has a raised accessible floor for wiring.  The ceiling has an acoustical lay in ceiling that conceals the sprinklers and mechanical distribution. Lighting consists of suspended fluorescent fixtures.
