Carta Shuttle Shelters

From the inception of this important urban design commission we at Hefferlin + Kronenberg Architects recognized that the design objectives for the shuttle stops went beyond the making of shelters.  Paramount in our thinking was defining the shuttle route visually, giving it a comprehensible structure by making identifiable landmarks at each stop. Thus the shelters serve the users primarily as navigational tools within the city as well as shelter from the elements. The form of each shelter is an inverted glass parasol, somewhat evocative of train sheds, suspended by a cable from a mast. The entire structure is stainless steel and laminated glass, differentiating it from its surroundings to enhance its identity within the urban fabric.
