Enzo’s Market is an adaptive reuse project which will transform the fifteen thousand square foot Hill Floral Group Warehouse at the corner of West Main Street and Long Street into a neighborhood grocery store. The central location should draw clients living in the Southside, Saint Elmo, Highland Park, Downtown, Jefferson Heights, and commuters working in downtown Chattanooga. The exterior improvements will include raising the parking lot to grade with the entrance to allow shopping cart access while making the automobile secondary to the pedestrian. The addition of a dining terrace serving the grocery’s café will activate the urban realm. The addition of entry canopies will shade and emphasize the newly opened entry elements to the market and café. The exterior material palette is to include retaining walls, clear anodized aluminum entry canopies with slate shingle siding, and clear anodized aluminum storefront. A heavy timber trellis with painted galvanized steel purlins and standing seam roof panels will provide shade and shelter for clients on the dining terrace. A wood rain screen will enclose the recycling and rubbish holding area. The loading dock bussel will be clad with slate shingle siding and standing seam roof panels. The existing concrete masonry walls will be painted a rich brown color in keeping with recent work in the area. Along with the addition of skylights on the roof, several openings will be added to the walls creating inviting entries and bringing natural light deep into the spaces with in. An automatic sprinkler system will be added to accommodate the mercantile occupancy and Type II-B construction requirements. The toilet rooms will be updated to meet accessibility standards. The interior of the café and entry at Enzo’s will be clad with wood slats creating a warm and inviting interior. The market interior will utilize a free form suspend soffit clad in vertical slats to create a change of scale at areas where transactions occur. A heavy timber mezzanine structure will be added in the existing cold storage creating a storage mezzanine and a wine shop.
