Northwestern Mutual hired us to give their dated office in the Republic Center a much needed update. Though the client was a traditionalist at heart, he wanted to move the office in a more modern direction. We worked with the client to create an elegant, clean space that has a timeless feel that could balance well with the client’s more traditional sensibilities.
As company members often met with clients in the office, creating a grand first impression was extremely important. We designed a light travertine-like tile entry in the elevator lobby that faces a large frameless glass opening that kept the entry feeling open and welcoming but still formal. For the rest of the office, we used a walnut stain on all doors to give a crisp and sophisticated look that highly contrasted with the gray palette of the offices and bring some warmth to the corridors. Subtle details were very important in creating an elegant atmosphere, one example being a herring bone detail where linear plank carpet tiles turned the corner in office corridors. In addition to remodeling the office’s interior finishes, we also selected all new furnishings and work stations for the space.
