Taisei

The designs for this mixed-use project in Los Angeles are a product of a limited design competition.  Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill and three other architects each submitted designs to the Japanese Construction Conglomerate, the Taisei Corporation.  Mr. Kronenberg was the studio head responsible for the design of the projects.

We prepared three schemes.  The first was an 84-story mixed-use tower comprised of 56 floors of office and an atrium hotel of 28 floors at the top.

The second scheme (not pictured) was a 57-story office tower and a separate 6-story hotel adjacent.

The third scheme broke the project down into smaller components in two or three phases with a 42-story office tower and a 12-story hotel in phase one and a 28-story office tower in phase 2.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill was awarded the commission for the project; however, the project was never built.  The owner was unable to assemble the parcels of land and subsequently abandoned the project.
