HK Architects respectfully and efficiently redesigned the 1927 Chattanooga Savings Bank building to house a new Aloft Hotel. Part of the National Register of Historic Places, the building’s existing bank interiors provide a striking historic backdrop for Aloft’s urban modernism. The 11-story, narrow rectangular building combines Art Deco eagles, flattened Tudor arches, and Roman pilasters, with terra cotta exteriors and a granite base and entry. Modern furniture and lighting complement large steel windows, ornate plaster ceilings, and the original brass elevator lobby. The resulting renovation respects the history of the space while embodying Aloft’s bold, modern spirit.
