The Remembrance Chapel was built for the Collegedale Seventh-Day Adventist’s Church as a much-needed funeral services addition to the church’s cemetery, Memorial Park. Especially with an older demographic where walking on the hilly landscape is an accessibility concern, the chapel offers a beautiful place to gather and honor the memory of the passed.
The chapel is an open-air, pergola style, with two-thirds covered by a roof and the last third to be eventually covered by vines. The pavilion was designed to use influences of both Tuscan and Alpine architecture, incorporating rustic material and heavy timber. On the one solid wall used as a back-drop for services, a cross is positioned to frame the setting sun in the evenings, and is illuminated from the outside after dark.
HK Architects was honored to be a part of the design and construction of this beautiful space, and hope that it provides comfort and solace to all those who gather there.
