Budget constraints and an irregularly shaped space made the resurrection of this retail storefront a challenge for HK Architects and the owner. The thoughtful reuse of existing lighting, electrical, and mechanical systems kept the project on budget, while an additional curvilinear wall between the point of sale and back of house areas helped to unify the space and hide unattractive electrical equipment. Patinated sheet steel on the wall forms the basis of the simple palette of rich browns and natural materials, creating a warm neutral background and drawing attention to products on display.
