EMPIRE OFFICE
Empire Communities, a homebuilder new to the Chattanooga area, hired HK to design their new office on the first floor of Somer Station. The adaptive reuse project by HK Architects preserved the original building's unique elements like exposed brick walls, steel columns and wood ceilings, while seamlessly integrating them with Empire's modern branding and finishes.
Three private offices and two glass-enclosed conference rooms anchor the floor plan, creating distinct zones for focused work. These break out areas are balanced by an open studio and large kitchen where Empire's interior designers and realtors can collaborate with clients. This 2,000 square foot tenant fit out thoughtfully addresses the unique needs of the client, blends with the design of Somer Station, and preserves the unique character of the old printing press that was formerly housed here.
