IRONWOOD TOWER

Equal parts nostalgic and inventive, the owners envisioned a home that would embody creativity itself—a place where craftsmanship, imagination, metal, and stone come together. With an eclectic sensibility and a lifelong passion for hospitality and machinery, they sought to build a home that celebrates both artistry and engineering, resulting in a one-of-a-kind residence that invites and intrigues.

The master plan positioned the house at the highest point of the property, offering panoramic views that stretch for miles in every direction. The owner’s love of gardening is evident in the raised beds and orchards placed just steps from the door, while the property’s original barn was preserved to provide storage and a connection to the land’s agrarian past.

Upon approach, there is no mistaking the home’s character: bold, sculptural, and unapologetically original. The architecture blurs the line between function and fantasy. From afar, sturdy stone forms recall a simpler time, while a soaring steel tower encourages the visitor to wonder, what if? Up close, exposed steel, classical details, and curved forms suggest an architecture of motion and discovery, beckoning all who arrive to come see what lies within.

Inside, the design maintains a language of curves and continuity. Spaces flow effortlessly from intimate nooks to elevated experiences. At its heart, the home revolves around two key spaces: a grand living room with a view and an expansive kitchen. The round living room centers on a monumental fireplace of steel and gears, a kinetic sculpture in its own right, while the opposing kitchen is anchored by a hand-carved timber island that adds both balance and whimsy to the interior. A spiral stair of rolled steel rises to the lookout tower, offering a quiet perch for watching the forest below or the constellations above.

Outside, nature provides its own spectacle. The surrounding landscape teems with life—butterflies drifting through wildflowers, deer crossing at dusk, and foxes slipping through the trees. From the courtyard, the owners can enjoy the cultivated garden, or wander to the wild farmland beyond. From the tower, one can observe both the gentle rhythm of the forest and the intricate workings of the home, each in quiet conversation with the other.
