C. Denise Shaw

Architect

C. Denise Shaw loves a good design challenge. She thrives when a project backs her into a corner and the obvious solutions no longer work. For Denise, those are the moments that demand the most creativity and often lead to the most rewarding outcomes. With more than three decades of experience in architecture, she has worked on everything from high-rise office towers and performing arts centers to dental offices and custom homes. Before joining HK as a Senior Project Manager, Denise founded and led her own firm, Plumb Architecture, where she developed a broad range of experience and an appreciation for the unique challenges each project presents.

While Denise doesn't have a favorite building type, she has a particular passion for spaces that blur the boundaries between indoors and out. Inspired by the natural world, she enjoys incorporating biophilic design, outdoor living areas, and thoughtful connections to the surrounding landscape. She believes architecture should embrace its environment, creating spaces that bring the outdoors in and encourage people to connect with nature.

A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design with a Master of Architecture, Denise also believes in giving back to her community. She has been involved in green schools initiatives and architectural education programs, introducing young students to the possibilities of design. She continues that commitment to mentorship as a Scoutmaster for an all-girls troop on Signal Mountain.
